Multiplication UNCOVERED
Is your child's relationship with math ready for a transformation? Is the traditional approach of simply "covering" content not working for your child? Welcome to P9Learning’s UNCOVERED Series, where we don't just cover topics; we help your child uncover the fascinating world of mathematics. Our courses are designed to nurture your child's evolving identity as a confident mathematician and realize their true potential as problem-solvers.
-
Multiplication concepts will serve as the tool with which your child unlocks their new relationship with math. The students will be guided through a process of thinking that seamlessly moves from concrete to pictorial to symbolic. An emphasis will be place not on mastering skills or content, instead we will focus on:
Monitoring oneself as a mathematician to identify when meaning breaks down
Communicating mathematical understandings as a way to consolidate learning and identify misconceptions
Noticing and naming the strategies and techniques that are effective for each individual.
Students will:
explore multiplication as repeated addition with concrete representations and whole body movements
question the relationship between area and perimeter by building arrays and rearranging tangible objects
design works of art then analyze them for patterns of equal groups
engage in competitive and collaborative games
and much more depending on their interests, needs, and questions!
Let's redefine your child's math identity, one discovery at a time!
-
The course will run for 8 weeks and have a maximum of 4 students. Each week includes:
a short task to be completed before our live meeting
a live meeting (date and time TBD)
a math game to be played throughout the week
a parent newsletters with tips and advice on how to use the week’s game and learning task to continue developing your child’s growing identity as a mathematician.
Cost: $200
-

an internet-enabled device with access to GoogleMeet and Google Classroom
